Planning

Historical Context

Construction began in 1996, and the first building (the Hemisfèric) opened in 1998. The project was a massive undertaking aimed at boosting Valencia's cultural and tourism profile. Designed primarily by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, with the Oceanogràfic's shell roofs by Félix Candela, it stands as a testament to late 20th-century architectural ambition and engineering prowess.

Photography Tips

  • Visit during the 'blue hour' after sunset for stunning shots of the illuminated buildings and their reflections
  • Use a polarizing filter during the day to reduce glare on the water and deepen the blue of the sky
  • A wide-angle lens is essential to capture the immense scale of the architecture
  • Look for symmetrical compositions using the pools for perfect reflections

Insider Tips

  • Start your day at the venue furthest from the entrance and work your way back to avoid the main crowds
  • The ground floor of the Science Museum has temporary exhibitions that are often less crowded but equally fascinating
  • For the best photo of the entire complex, walk to the Monteolivete Bridge
  • Bring your own reusable water bottle; there are fountains to refill it and stay hydrated
  • The area is beautiful at night when fully illuminated, so consider returning after dark even if you visit during the day

Our Partners

  • We are proud to connect you with tickets from leading and trusted tour platforms like GetYourGuide, Tiqets, and Civitatis, ensuring a high-quality booking experience and reliable customer service.

Fun Facts

  • The entire complex is built in the former riverbed of the Turia River, which was diverted after a catastrophic flood in 1957.
  • The roof of the Palau de les Arts is over 230 meters long, making it one of the largest shells of its kind in the world.
  • The Oceanogràfic holds approximately 42 million liters of water, equivalent to 15 Olympic swimming pools.
  • The shape of the Hemisfèric is meant to resemble a human eye, representing wisdom and discovery.

Architectural Wonder and a Full Day of Fun

Booking our combo ticket online was the best decision. We walked right past a huge queue. The architecture is breathtaking, especially at night. The Oceanogràfic was the highlight for our family - the shark tunnel is mesmerizing. The science museum was very interactive and engaging for the kids. A must-do in Valencia!

Great Experience, But Plan Your Day

An amazing place. The Hemisfèric film was a cool experience. However, the complex is massive! Wear your most comfortable shoes. We felt a bit rushed trying to see everything with the combo ticket in one day. My advice: start early and pace yourself. The value for money is excellent though.

Oceanogràfic is World-Class

I bought a ticket just for the Oceanogràfic and was blown away. It's easily the best aquarium I've ever visited. The variety of ecosystems is incredible, from the Arctic belugas to the Mediterranean section. The underwater restaurant looked incredible, though we didn't eat there. Getting the ticket online was seamless, just scanned my phone at the gate.

Stunning from every angle!

As an architecture lover, this place was heaven. I spent hours just walking around the outside, taking photos. The white structures against the blue pools are picture-perfect. I visited the Science Museum which was fun, but the real star is the design of the buildings themselves. A true modern masterpiece.

A Very Full, Enjoyable Day

We did the full combo ticket. It's a long day but worth it. The dolphin show was entertaining and the science museum had some really thought-provoking exhibits. Food inside is a bit pricey, so maybe bring your own snacks and water. Booking through a platform like this saved us the hassle of figuring out the official website.

未来的な空間!(Futuristic Space!)

Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences is like stepping into the future. The design is simply awe-inspiring. We booked our tickets beforehand and it was very smooth. The aquarium was very impressive, with so many different marine animals. It's a long walk between buildings, but the scenery is beautiful. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Valencia.

Great for families

Took my two kids (8 and 11) and they had a blast. The 'Forbidden not to touch' policy at the science museum is genius. They were entertained for hours. The aquarium was also a huge hit. It gets very busy, so having pre-booked tickets was a lifesaver. The complex is huge, so be prepared for a lot of walking.

Imperdível em Valência

What an incredible place! We bought the combined ticket and spent the entire day there, from opening until closing. The architecture is from another world. The Oceanogràfic is simply fantastic, one of the best in the world. Booking was easy and having the ticket on my phone was very convenient. A must-see attraction in Valencia.
